Chisholm Table

Chisholm Table is a coalition of Black-led, nonprofit, and governmental organizations building a new table to uplift, empower, and make visible Black communities across New Mexico through collective action and lasting change.

Who we are

Named in honor of trailblazer Shirley Chisholm, Chisholm Table is a coalition convened by the New Mexico Black Leadership Council that brings together Black-led, nonprofit, and governmental organizations to serve and uplift Black communities across New Mexico. Inspired by Mrs. Chisholm’s call to “bring a folding chair,” we are not just claiming a seat—we’re building a new table that centers the political, social, economic, and cultural needs of our people. Together, we are working to make the Black community visible, empowered, and equipped to lead lasting change from the inside out.

You don’t make progress by standing on the sidelines whimpering and complaining. You make progress by implementing ideas. If they don’t give you a seat at the table, bring a folding chair.
