UpLift Meeting: The Reckoning Circle

This meeting will take place in person in the Main Conference Room at NMBLC – Hybrid Zoom option is available but we hope to see you in person! 

The Reckoning Circle: What We Must Face About Homelessness, Housing, and Human Dignity  

What do we do when people say no? 

Open Circle Format

We will frame the conversation with a challenging & realistic scenario. 

We’ll use an open circle format where everyone — guest speakers, residents, service providers, business owners, advocates, and community members — sits facing one another as equals.

Guest speakers will present a short response to the scenario then invite Uplift participants to present questions and discussion points to dive deeper into the response. 

Invited guest speakers include individuals from the following organizations, including community members: 

– The American Civil Liberties Union of NM (ACLU NM)

– City of Albuquerque Department of Health, Housing & Homelessness (CABQ HHH)

– The Homelessness Union 

– The NM Coalition to End Homelessness (NMCEH)

– The Albuquerque Police Department (APD)

– Daymon B. Ely Law Offices 

– Local Business Owners & Residents and 

-Local Landlords

10am – 10:05am:  Introductions & Discussion Framing 

Introduction to the topic, partners and community members in the room. 

10:05am – 11:00am: Scenario Intro, Presentations & Questions

– Scenario Intro 

– Live Polling 

– Speaker Presentations: Speakers will present their responses to the scenarios

–  Follow-up Questions: Participants will have the opportunity to cross-examine speakers, challenge ideas, explore trade-offs and request solutions 

– Reflection 

11:00am – 12:00pm: Solutions Lab

In the final hour of Uplift, we will explore solutions to the presented scenarios together. 

– Final round of live polling 

– Closing reflection
