The February ‘Being Black in New Mexico’ edition of The Paper is written entirely by local Black writers.
We took over the February Black History edition of The Paper. And by we, I mean myself and other Black New Mexican writers. The Paper’s managing editor, Tierna Unruh-Enos, turned over the February 17th edition entirely to guest writers in the Black community.
I wrote about the Black conversations series that happened on Cafecito con Colón in the wake of the killing of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor.
Tracy Dingmann interviewed Black business owners about the effect of the Black Lives Matter movement on their business.
Gene Grant wrote about the need for Black Voices to fill the void in media.
Ramona King covered Black filmmakers in New Mexico and how they’re creating their own stories.
Zarah Bundrage got the rundown on artist groups in New Mexico.
Thank you to The Paper for providing this space to amplify Black voices.
