The evening will also include a special tribute to the memory of Dr. Harold Bailey: UNM alumnus, former director of the UNM Afro-American Studies Program, and lifelong champion for civil rights in New Mexico.

    Black women are often referred to as “the canary in the coalmine”: What does that mean? and what steps are being or could be taken—locally and nationally—to correct course?

    Brunch will be served, and a panel of four amazing women—including Cathy McGill and Sonya Bellafant (Executive Director of New Mexico Legal Aid)—will share their thoughts about moving through these times. Plus, Kristin Carmichael & Estella Swain will present on their housing stability project, as they wrap up the planning phase of this important initiative.

    Queer Icons: A Community Exhibition and Celebration

    The Queerencia NM project and Moving Arts Española present Queer Icons of New Mexico, a multigenerational exhibition celebrating the Hispanic/Latine New Mexican LGBTQ community.

    Through digital storytelling and visual arts, this exhibit presents the collective voice of youth artists, community members, and leaders whose unique stories and experiences of strength, identity, and belonging are helping to shape LGBTQ culture in New Mexico.
