    * AAPINH and African American/Black youth
    * Ages 16-24 years of age
    * Desire to share your culture and express your story through art

    Apply HERE to be part of the fourth annual TrueNM Project!

    * Experiment with different media

    * Participate in workshops and presentations

    * Earn a stipend for your work and participation

    September 25: CNM President Tracy Hartzler shared details on Higher Ed GO Bond 3; Elizabeth Hamilton, Director of Behavioral Health at the Child, Youth, and Families Department, spoke about the great work they do in our communities.

    August 28:  an update from Kristin Charmichael and Estella Swain on the ABQ Homeless Prevention Project.

    July 31: we toured the new Albuquerque Community Safety headquarters and learned about the program.

    Join the stylists and barbers of NMBLC’s Beyond the Chair initiative for a fantastic showcase of hair design at New Mexico Beyond the Chair Hair Flair! Doors open at 3:00, show starts at 5:00.

    Register NOW for Roots Summer Leadership Academy!

    Registration closes on June 30 for the 2023 RSLA! Don’t miss this chance for kids 8 to 16 to have fun, build community, and learn leadership skills. Classes include Dance, Theater, STEM, Music, Visual Arts, and Social/Emotional Learning. Also included are field trips, performances, and caregiver workshops!

    Breakfast, lunch, and snacks provided to students daily. Dropoff at 7:30, pickup 5:30. Transportation will be provided to First Unitarian Church from the International District. Mandatory Parent/Caregiver Orientation is Sunday, July 9, 2023 at 4pm. Final performance and celebratory luncheon on July 28 at 11:30 am. Register HERE!

    Join the New Mexico Black Leadership Council for the NM Juneteenth 2023 celebration at Civic Plaza in Downtown Albuquerque. NMBLC will have a table on Saturday, June 17, 2023, from Noon-7pm. Besides food sample and drink giveaways, we’ll have activities for each of our UpLift Initiative focus areas.

    Health, Wellness, Vaccine Confidence

    Ask a Doctor: NMBLC Board member Dr. Duane Ross and Dr. Sheldon Jordan are here to answer your questions about general health and vaccines.

    Free massage: Sign up for a free massage between 2-7pm with Sue Mumsford of Cheyenne Wellness.

    Voter Registration and Housing: Register to vote, take the original “Black” voter’s quiz, and talk to our in house attorney Jack Champagne about what’s on the ballot and what’s happening in housing legislation.

    Affordable Connectivity Program: See if you qualify and sign up for free or low cost internet.

    Youth Development: Sign your kids up for the Roots Summer Leadership Academy happening July 9 — July 28, 2023.  Spark a little joy with mask making, book giveaways, bubble machines, and trampolines.

    Cultural Vibrancy: Play (or learn to play for the first time) Spades, Bid Whist, and Dominoes.

    Workforce Development: Last but not least, visit all of our stations, stamp your “passport” and enter the drawing for a free laptop valued at $600. Drawings are at 3:30pm and 5:30pm.
