    An ensemble of Black actors presents August Wilson’s play Jitney, about a group of rides-for-hire “jitney” drivers in the Hill district of Pittsburgh, where white drivers will not venture. The drivers grapple with the specter of Vietnam, family and community conflict, addiction, and racism.

    Alice Randall: My Black Country

    My Black Country is a recent release by Alice Randall,  award-winning professor, songwriter, and author. In the book, Randall recounts her past and her search for the first family of Black country music. My Black Country celebrates the radical joy in realizing the power of Black influence on American culture through the work of DeFord Bailey, Lil Hardin, Ray Charles, Charley Pride, and Herb Jeffries.

    Yinka Esi Graves: The Disappearing Act

    Yinka Esi Graves is the Black Flamenco dancer in the documentary “Gurumbe: Canciones de tu Memoria Negra.” “The Disappearing Act” is her first solo production, in which she draws on her reality as a flamenco dancer of Afro-Caribbean descent and the historical and representational questions this has raised throughout her career.

     

    With dance, live music, text, and video, this experimental flamenco work was developed through a series of international residencies. Get your tickets HERE!

    NDI NM Annual Gala: Dream Big!

    Join National Dance Institute of NM for its annual gala and fundraiser in the big tent! This year is the institute’s 30th birthday, so the event will be extra-special, with 500 school children from Albuquerque and the surrounding areas in a highly energetic musical theater performance.

     

    Dream Big! will explore NDI students’ aspirations and dreams, dreamers who have changed the world, and dreams for our communities. The performance will be followed by a seated dinner, drinks, dancing, and live entertainment.
