1-2:30 pm: FAMILY ART WORKSHOP – Shoebox Parade Float
All ages are invited to make a mini parade float to present during the DJ party with Mario Ybarra Jr. afterward.
2-4 pm: COMMUNITY GATHERING – Mario Ybarra Jr.: Nuevo Complexican
Shake off the week with a Día de los Muertos celebration featuring Mario Ybarra Jr., an acclaimed Los Angeles-based artist and culture worker. Dance to old-school R&B records and enjoy local food trucks, music, community art making, and more!
5-8 pm: CONVERSATION & FILM – Sterlin Harjo & Cannupa Hanska Luger
Award-winning 2024 MacArthur Foundation Fellow Seminole/Muscogee filmmaker Sterlin Harjo (Reservation Dogs) will introduce a screening of his Indigenous artist-focused documentary film, Love and Fury. Then there will be a live audience recording of the Broken Boxes podcast series Long Con, an ongoing conversation between Harjo and artist Cannupa Hanska Luger.

AAPAC Gallery Opening
The African American Performing Arts Center is re-opening its gallery! Come to the celebration to view and learn about more than 200 items from countries around Africa, as well as enjoy refreshments, meet the staff, and browse the gift shop.

True NM 2024 Exhibition Artist Showcase
Did you miss the True NM Sawubona exhibit in May, or wish you’d had more time to explore it? Now’s your chance! The 2024 cohort of Black and AAPINH youth artists is gathering again to show their art at Explora, with a showcase from 4:00 to 5:00 pm and works on display from October 12 through 20.
Attendees coming to view the exhibit on the 19th need not pay admission – just need to tell the front desk you are there for the True NM exhibit.
