The last in Wilson’s Pittsburgh cycle, the play takes place in the context of the civil-rights movement, rioting, and gentrification, and focuses on Memphis Lee’s attempts to get a fair price for his restaurant when the city pans to demolish it.

    An ensemble of Black actors presents August Wilson’s play Jitney, about a group of rides-for-hire “jitney” drivers in the Hill district of Pittsburgh, where white drivers will not venture. The drivers grapple with the specter of Vietnam, family and community conflict, addiction, and racism.

This wonderful ensemble piece features the story of a group of unlicensed “jitney” drivers providing crucial taxi services to their community, which regular taxis will not serve.
