    Black Uhuru

    Dance to sounds from one of the most popular reggae bands from Jamaica, in the beautiful new concert space FUSION Meadow!

    Black Uhuru has been called “ambassadors of reggae” after winning the first ever Grammy Award for reggae music and having the highest reggae record sales after Bob Marley and the most songs sampled by other artists.

    Roots Summer Leadership Academy

    Have fun, build community, and learn leadership skills at the 2023 NMBLC Roots Leadership Academy! Classes include Dance, Theater, STEM, Music, Visual Arts, and Social/Emotional Learning. Also included are field trips, performances, and caregiver workshops! Registration open until June 30 for kids 8 to 16. Don’t miss the summer fun! Final performance and celebratory luncheon on July 28 at 11:30 am.

    Breakfast, lunch, and snacks provided to students daily. Transportation will be provided from the International District. Mandatory Parent/Caregiver Orientation is Sunday, July 9, 2023 at 4pm.

    Rio Rancho Juneteenth Freedom Day

    Celebrate Juneteenth Freedom Day on June 16 at Campus Park at Rio Rancho City Center.

    Enjoy food, activities, and a beer garden! There will also be vendor booths and community services booths on hand. After the event, there will be a showing of the movie 42 starring Chadwick Boseman, as Jackie Robinson, and Harrison Ford.

    NMPBS and NM Office of African American Affairs invite you to an evening of hip hop! First, an abbreviated screening of “Fight the Power,” episode two, followed by a hip-hop history workshop facilitated by Oriana Lee from Earthseed Black Arts Alliance.

    World Refugee Day is an international day designated by the United Nations. It celebrates the strength and courage of people who have been forced to flee their home countries to escape conflict or persecution. On this day we hope to build empathy and understanding for their hardship, and to recognize their resilience in rebuilding their lives and the many gifts they bring to their new homes.

    NM Juneteenth Celebration

    Save the date for New Mexico’s premier Juneteenth event! Celebrate Black-owned businesses, artisans, vendors, performers, and more! Rain or shine!

    This year’s Juneteenth event will include speakers, national and local musical acts, a youth fashion empowerment show, a COVID-19 vaccination clinic, food, and lots of dancing. The entire event will be family friendly and will follow current COVID safeguards. Other highlights include:

    • Black Wall Street (local entrepreneurs sharing financial literacy)

    • Black Excellence Avenue (featuring a curated art show)
