    The Letter from Birmingham Jail helped to inspire the enactment of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965. Chris Ulloa Chaves, ED.D. of the University of New Mexico and member presents a 90-minute discussion of the Letter from Birmingham Jail. Bring an open, respectful attitude and desire to learn from all participants’ knowledge and experience.

    Join in the commemorative march! This year’s theme is “Mission Possible: Protecting Freedom, Justice, and Democracy in the Spirit of Nonviolence 365.”

    March begins at 9am on the UNM campus, at the corner of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr Drive and University Blvd. Commemorative ceremony begins at the end of the march route, Civic Plaza, at 11am.

    Join with Veterans for Peace and the Albuquerque NAACP to commemorate the anniversaries of Martin Luther King, Jr’s death and his earthshaking 1967 speech “Beyond Vietnam – A Time to Break the Silence.”

     

    A short presentation and film will be preceded by a time for socializing and light appetizers.
