    SOMOS Festival 2025: A Love Letter to Albuquerque

    See the National Hispanic Cultural Center transformed into a place where music, creativity, and culture collide in a kaleidoscope of color, movement, sound and connection. The day will bring large-scale art installations, hands-on activities, performances, and interactive experiences that invite all ages to create, play, and explore. (And eat and shop!) The last in Wilson’s Pittsburgh cycle, the play takes place in the context of the civil-rights movement, rioting, and gentrification, and focuses on Memphis Lee’s attempts to get a fair price for his restaurant when the city pans to demolish it.

    An ensemble of Black actors presents August Wilson’s play Jitney, about a group of rides-for-hire “jitney” drivers in the Hill district of Pittsburgh, where white drivers will not venture. The drivers grapple with the specter of Vietnam, family and community conflict, addiction, and racism.

     

    $30 ticket price includes parking. Get your Jitney Tickets HERE. AAPAC is slated to be defunded in July, and needs your help!

    AfroMundo Festival: World Premiere of “Sterling’s Silver”

    An enhanced Reader’s Production of a play by New Mexico resident Karen Jones Meadows, author of multiple anthologized and performed plays, and the recipient of a 2020 Story Protector Award. She has presented at the United Nations, UNESCO, International Women’s Economic Forum, and much more.
