In April 2021, it became illegal to discriminate in the workplace based on hairstyle or cultural or religious headdress. In this Zoom workshop, learn more about the CROWN Act and how to foster a culture that recognizes and is inclusive to folks whose hair is an expression of identity.

60 Years & Still Marching!

Join local leaders and activists to continue the work of social activists like Martin Luther King Jr. “Not a commemoration, a continuation.” Stand up against discrimination, hate crimes, and prejudice. Stand up for freedom, equality, and justice for all.

March at 10:00 am, line up begins at 9:30. Rally from 10:30 – 12 noon.

AfroMundo Social Justice Film Series: Gather

Join AfroMundo in NHCC’s Wells Fargo Theater for a free screening of Gather: “an intimate portrait of the growing movement amongst Native Americans to reclaim their spiritual, political and cultural identities through food sovereignty, while battling the trauma of centuries of genocide.”

Film screening will be followed by a panel discussion.

Juvenile Justice Mixer

Welcome to a space hosted by Bernalillo County’s Alternatives to Detention committee, where folks involved in juvenile justice can meet and greet, participate in open mic sessions for youth and agencies to talk about services, and share information and swag at community tables.

There will also be food (FRITO PIE!) and access to the African American Performing Arts Center museum!

Hobbs – MLK Day of Giving 2021

The NAACP, City of Hobbs, United Way of Lea County, Hobbs Municipal Schools, Hobbs Headstart, Hobbs Hispano Chamber of Commerce, Hobbs Chamber of Commerce, WHI Hobbs, Cissy’s Food Ministry, Lea County Beef Project, The Salvation Army, Pacific Rim and Domino’s Pizza have all teamed up to honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr by a Day of Giving.

Monday, January 18, 2021 these organizations will come together to give back to the community from 12-2pm at MLK Soccerplex located at 1320 S. Dal Paso. To help celebrate the dream of unity by MLK, we invite everyone to come experience the unity of Hobbs as we hand out food; hot meals and/or food boxes, as well as collecting coats for re-distribution and handing out what we currently have collected.
