Roots Camp Harambee!
Join us at the rollicking Harambee Celebration, where the students of Roots Academy share their talents and all they’ve learned! This end-of camp showcase features a live student performance, a showcase of their camp activities, an awards ceremony, and lunch – all to celebrate what they’ve accomplished together this summer. (Harambee is Swahili for “all pull together.”)

How a Bike Stays Upright STEM Workshop
Join Esperanza Bicycle Safety for a STEM bike workshop and activity. You’ll learn the science behind bicycles! For ages 11-16.

Animated Game Design with Explora! and Sphero
Calling kids ages 9 through 12! Have a blast using the adorable Sphero programmable robot – plus your own ingenuity – to create a fun, interactive experience. Registration is required – sign up for the Sphero workshop here!

ROOTS Summer Leadership Camp
We are so excited to offer our signature positive youth development program again in 2024! It’s going to be another great year at RSLA.
This free three-week program features field trips, performances, STEM activities, and tons of opportunities for self-exploration, leadership development, and FUN! Plus, it includes before- and aftercare, breakfast, lunch, and snacks.

OmegaSTEM Code Jam Drone Competition
Who will be fastest? Program a drone and fly it through an obstacle course! Learn to code, test your creativity, and demonstrate your powers of critical thinking and leadership at the 2024 Code Jam!

Black History Month Special Exhibit at Nuclear Museum
Every day this month starting on February 1, the National Museum of Nuclear Science & History will celebrate Black History Month with a special exhibit featuring scientific contributions and achievements in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics by a diverse array of African American scientists and inventors who helped change the world.

Register NOW for Roots Summer Leadership Academy!
Registration closes on June 30 for the 2023 RSLA! Don’t miss this chance for kids 8 to 16 to have fun, build community, and learn leadership skills. Classes include Dance, Theater, STEM, Music, Visual Arts, and Social/Emotional Learning. Also included are field trips, performances, and caregiver workshops!
Breakfast, lunch, and snacks provided to students daily. Dropoff at 7:30, pickup 5:30. Transportation will be provided to First Unitarian Church from the International District. Mandatory Parent/Caregiver Orientation is Sunday, July 9, 2023 at 4pm. Final performance and celebratory luncheon on July 28 at 11:30 am. Register HERE!

HMTECH STEM classes with Sandia
FREE 2023 HMTech (Hands-on-Minds-On Technology) class. We look forward to exploring the exciting world of science, technology, engineering, and math with your middle or high school student this summer. The program, sponsored by the Black Leadership Committee at Sandia National Labs, is free, and classes are available for incoming middle and high school students.
