Grammy-nominated singer, composer, tradition-bearer, folklorist and champion of the Pacific coast’s Afro-Colombian cultural heritage Nidia Gongóra will perform music that blends the music of her native Timbiquí with other world genres.
Kiran Ahluwalia has one two JUNO (Canadian Grammy) awards for her open-hearted vocals.
With guitarist husband Rez Abbasi leading her band, Kiran has traveled the world bringing together the disparate traditions of Indian music, West African Blues and Jazz – as she and Rez, her born in India, he in Pakistan, have personally crossed ethnic and religious lines together.
“I’ve taken aesthetics I love such as blues, Malian styles, and of course Indian forms and mashed them together in my own way,” explains Ahluwalia.
