    Focus on Youth Juried Student Photography Exhibit Reception

    Focus on Youth includes nearly 100 photographs and short films,  including silver print, digital, and special techniques in photography, art books, and digital film. This juried student exhibition of high school photographers and filmmakers is jointly sponsored by Albuquerque Public Schools Fine Arts and Albuquerque Museum. Reception from 1:00 to 3:00; awards given at 2:00. The exhibit will be viewable until June 1.

    True NM Art Exhibition 2025: SONKE (All of Us)

    Don’t miss this collaboration between NMBLC, the NM Asian Family Center, and a cohort of 10 exciting young Black and AAPINH (Asian American, Pacific Islander, and Native Hawaiian) artists! These artists challenge the tricultural myth by telling their own, true New Mexican stories through the lens of art. This exciting event is free!

    SONKE is NMBLC’s theme for 2025. The word “Sonke” means “all of us” in Zulu. We use it to sum up our shared journey and the unification of New Mexico’s rich and diverse communities. Plus, it gives us a nifty acronym: Sharing Our Narratives, Knowledge, and Experiences.

    True NM Sawubona+ Exhibition art opening

    Did you miss it? Or wanna see it again? Now’s your chance to peep these exciting works of art by the 2024 True NM cohort: 12 Black and AAPINH New Mexicans sharing their True New Mexican lives through their art.

    Eight of the 12 youth artists will be present, plus four mentor artists. As a special bonus, True NM alum and singer-songwriter Kai Warrior will perform!

    True NM 2024 Exhibition Artist Showcase

    Did you miss the True NM Sawubona exhibit in May, or wish you’d had more time to explore it? Now’s your chance! The 2024 cohort of Black and AAPINH youth artists is gathering again to show their art at Explora, with a showcase from 4:00 to 5:00 pm and works on display from October 12 through 20.

    Attendees coming to view the exhibit on the 19th need not pay admission – just need to tell the front desk you are there for the True NM exhibit.

    Join the Hayes Middle School Mural Club and Garfield MS to celebrate their new mural on El Día del Niño at the Education Building at the National Hispanic Cultural Center (NHCC)!

    Event illustration is the club’s latest mural, about balance and how we work with the dark, negative, or scary things in our lives.

    Artist Requirements:

    * AAPINH and African American/Black youth
    * Ages 16-24 years of age
    * Desire to share your culture and express your story through art

    Apply HERE to be part of the fourth annual TrueNM Project!

    * Experiment with different media

    * Participate in workshops and presentations

    * Earn a stipend for your work and participation
