Read to the Dogs at San Pedro Library
Read to the Dogs provides lets kids read to a patient, nonjudgmental audience. It’s a great way for children to gain confidence in their reading – and make a furry friend. No preregistration required!
Kids who practice reading to dogs increase their fluency and confidence, which can help them do better in school. The Public Library hopes through this program children will relate to reading in a positive way and become lifelong readers. When children sign up, they receive a bookmark to record how many times they’ve read to the dogs and which dogs they’ve read to.
The dogs are registered therapy dogs, provided by Alliance of Therapy Dogs (formerly Therapy Dogs, Inc), Southwest Canine Corps of Volunteers, Warm Hearts Network, and High Desert Therapy Dogs.
